From Library JournalFirst published in 1999, this compelling international look at forgiveness has been updated in light of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Henderson, a journalist and associate of Moral Re-Armament (an international network recognized by the UN), persuasively argues that the world needs less recrimination and retribution and more dialog and reparation. He discusses the importance of official apologies in situations like apartheid in South Africa, colonialism in Australia, and the ongoing conflicts in Northern Ireland and the Middle East. To show that international peace is a possibility, he cites examples of victims of war, terrorism, and harsh regimes transcending their initial hatred of their oppressors. Timely and well written, this important work offers a challenging worldview. Recommended for both public and academic libraries.Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information, Inc. A very Significant book all leaders and peoples, and individuals in our personal lives can gain from. Forgiveness nor repentance will alone solve the world's problems or bring peace. But without those two elements, it is hard to see how settlements will prevail over time. Stories where that hold of history is being healed are features of this book. They show that forgiveness knows no national boundaries and has the power to break the chain of hatred and revenge handed down from generation to the next. America is a great country and would be greater still if we lead the world in bringing people with hatred together, to work towards building with and for each other rather than destroying each other. May we fund and put our best social scientists to study how to facilitate and nurture these ideas and carry out actions successfully.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Forgiveness, Breaking the Chain of HateBy A CustomerI was inspired by Michael Henderson's FORGIVENESS, Breaking the Chain of Hate, the first time I read it early in the year of 2001. After the September 11th terrorist acts, this book seemed particularly poignant.I was intrigued recently to find that there is a new updated version of the original book, with a new foreword by Gandhi's grandson. His observation of the timeliness and the importance of this work is keen. FORGIVENESS, Breaking the Chain of Hate is an inspired work.Everyone should read this book to help cope with the aftermath of September 11th.
