Ms. Holtham is the president and founder of Youth Transformation Center and a recognized leader in Colorados restorative justice movement. She has been instrumental in driving milestone legislation to make restorative justice more predominant in the judicial, corrections and school systems. She has directly worked with more than 3,000 high-risk youth in alternative schools, detention centers and prisons throughout Colorado, Texas, Wyoming, and the country of Malta. In 2003 she received the Excellence in Communication Award from Regis University having graduated summa cum laude with a BA in communications and was a recent nominee for the Pikes Peak Restorative Justice Leadership Award. ANDR ZARB-COUSINBorn on the island of Malta, Mr. Zarb-Cousin went on to hold all the soccer scoring records for more than 30 years from his alma mater Colorado College where he is a nominee for the Colorado College Soccer Hall of Fame. Known for his "go for the gold" attitude, Andre spent 11 years coaching award-winning high school soccer teams. Not surprisingly, both his son and daughter are now nationally known coaches, a college track and cross country coach at the Air Force Academy and a figure skating coach, respectively. With a BA in business administration from Colorado College and more than 30 years as an accountant executive primarily with Hewlett Packard, Andr now prefers the training room where he can inspire youth to move away from risky behaviors and reach for their BIG dreams. Transformational!By Mary Ellen JohnsonOne of the pleasures of reading TEN SUREFIRE WAYS TO TRANSFORM TROUBLED YOUTH is to know from the very first page that you are in the hands of experts. The authors are not just speaking theory; they have spent years working with at-risk kids. And their methods work. Packed into 68 pages is a wealth of practical advice, always presented in a loving and compassionate manner. It is obvious that the authors are passionate about their work, as well as the youth in their charge. And some of the outcomes are little short of miraculous.Broken into simple chapters, such as "Lighten up. Find the Humor," the authors share their experiences and offer simple, practical advice that applies to ALL children. And, yes, their surefire ways DO work, but more than that, I suspect the youth who are lucky enough to participate in these workshops are transformed as much by the sincerity of the authors as the tools themselves.As the authors state, TEN SUREFIRE WAYS is a book of hope. Practical, Fun and Uplifting!By RebeccaI have been following Youth Transformation Center, the organization Jeannette Holtham founded, for the past 10 years. As our country's educational system continues to be challenged on so many levels resulting in dismal high school graduation rates, this book along with Youth Transformation Centers' efforts are noble, inspirational, fun and really making a difference. In this second book, Jeannette and Andre present easy to implement practical tools specifically for parents, caregivers and educators, that will transform even the most challenging teen relationship. This is a quick read and a very practical tool.
