A fresh approach to parenting in the modern worldBy Alaine - Queen of Happy EndingsIf you are stressed out with all the pressures of juggling work and family life then this is a book I'd highly recommend to you. Scott Gale tells the story of his own family crisis and what lead up to it with refreshing honesty and frankness. Through his own experience he helps you identify your own families 'core issues' without preaching to you, rather the book is written in such a way that it makes you feel as if you are having a conversation. One of my favourite things about this book is that it believes in equality for all. I absolutely loved the idea that Scott had to work out 3 times a week to be able to sit down and watch football on Sundays. This book helps you set out incentives for not just the kids in the family but the parents and adults as well. I think this is the first parenting book I've ever read, and believe me I've read a lot over the 23 years of my own parenting, that includes the parents. What a fantastic and exciting idea! This past weekend my pregnant daughter and her husband moved back into our home so that they can save money to buy a house. So we've gone from being a household of 5 to 7 overnight, with 5 of the household members being adults. Having not forgotten how difficult it was prior to them moving out at the beginning of this year I really wanted to avoid some of the 'issues' that we've had in the past. But I thought I had a well thought out plan of assigning choirs etc, then I read Your Family Constitution. My main concern with living in a household of adults is that my youngest son is only 10 and it's so easy for his needs to be overlooked.Reading this book has given me many ideas on how I can make this big adjustment work for our family. Whilst my family dynamic is completely different to the authors I have been able to get many ideas that will help my current situation. Honestly when I received this book for review I thought it would be a nice read but didn't really think I had anything to learn from it. My household runs relatively smoothly without the need for yelling and only occasional stress, but I was wrong and have gained enormously from reading this book. I plan on reading it again this week and I've asked my daughter who is six months pregnant with her first child to read it. I highly recommend this wonderful book as I think every parent can gain something from it!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great addition to the Family LibraryBy Jewelry WhispererI have met families that run like a democracy and I have met family where there is a clear dictatorship. I am not sure if "my" family has a set category or if we just float from one to the other. But I am sure of how enjoyable it was to read Your Family Constitution by Scott Gale. Scott takes you on an adventure where it is clear to see that you are not alone in the big game of "parenting". It is fun to read the struggles, mishaps and "ah-ha" moments that he shares with the reader. With running a business, being a blogger, product reviewer, home schooler, women's and kid's ministries, wife and mom...I can totally 100% related to the aspect of being too much and being a bit unorganized (regardless that my daily planner is completely filled)Your Family Constitution helps you to realize that you are not alone and offers valuable tips and ideas on how to create a more dynamic and proficient family unit. What I enjoyed the most about this book that is was quite frankly enjoyable to read. I (sometimes) cringe and self-help and how-to books...because they generally seem to be boring and do not pertain to my life...but over and over I could relate to Scott's family life, struggles and joys. This is a great read, with many wonderful attributes. This is a book that was definitely created for the family library collection. You will reference it quite often. I know that I will.
