I couldn't quit reading it, and although I didn't finish it in one sitting, I did finish it within a couple days because I couldn't wait to read more. I highlighted so many beautiful sentences and sentiments throughout the story so I could review and go over them again and again.Johnstone does an excellent job of putting us in her head and her heart. She has shared intimate details and thoughts of her marriage as well as her desire to conceive a child, and how difficult it is once the child actually arrives--especially when you have no family nearby to help. She shares her fears and and struggles with all the decisions she makes and I was delighted to see that she is just like the rest of us: she has contradictory thoughts and emotions: i.e. I want a child, but I don't want to lose myself. We all have them: I want, but what if I get what I want? What will happen then? Will things still work out? Anyway, I could go on and on, but my recommendation is to read this book. It will leave you feeling that no one should have to go through what this couple had to in order to conceive a child. (Still, they did!) It will also leave you feeling good about the love Johnstone has for her husband and baby boy.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Emotional bookBy ReadsbooksThis is a book full of raw emotion. The author bravely bares her soul and the details of her life in a way that helps us remember all is not what it seems from the outside. Even beautiful pictures of vacations, family outings and exciting adventures have a backstory. This book is a reminder that we could all be a little more sensitive to one another.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. CaptivatingBy KCThis is a book about loss, fear, infertility, and mortality. But there is a larger story beneath the challenges this author faces--a story of learning how to be vulnerable, how to communicate with the people she loves, and how to live in the face of uncertainty. With raw honesty and beautiful prose, Kenney Johnstone takes us on a journey deep into heart and home. I devoured this book in less than 48 hours and I loved it. You will too--of this much I am sure.
