I liked reading about her childhood and adolescence. Her sisters were interesting too.8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. A wonderful, absorbing read! :-)By Customer-Mary Helen ChapmanThis book is alive with the ups and downs of growing up in the coal-mining camps and towns in the beautiful mountains of southern West Virginia during the 1940's and '50's. The author's language evokes new insights, laughter, tears, chills, and thrills as we experience the journey through her eyes. I highly recommend this book!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Joy in Simple ThingsBy Francie NolanI enjoyed this plain-spoken memoir of another era. It's honest and the writing is true. A few typos, but I didn't care. I really liked the author and her memories of a difficult childhood. What was noteworthy, too, was she doesn't dwell on the difficulties. That's unusual. She mentions them, but most of the book is about the joys she found in simple things in her life in a poor coal-mining family. A very nice read. God bless her.
