BodieAs an adoptive mom, and as a former public school employee (media specialist) I'm going to loudly proclaim this book as a must read, not just for adoptive parents, but also for adoption workers, therapists, school counselors, program directors, youth pastors, and to anyone who deals with chronic conflict children and youth in all walks of life. These behaviors can not be changed within the confines of either home or counseling centers, we parents must change ourselves and the way we manage conflict because there will be constant conflict.I've adopted several sibling groups over a 25 year time span, and I have observed, and experienced, a wide range of challenging behaviors and fundamentally neurologically impaired children who simply have no control over their behaviors. It is imperative that we learn conflict management skills, and this brilliantly written books tells us how to do so, written by an author who has both raised such challenged children and worked with them in her practice for many years.I also recommend this book to prospective foster and adoptive parents, to social workers and to therapists who attempt to help the parents both to cope and to successfully maintain a relationship with extraordinarily challenging children.Just knowing that others have dealt with similar situations is helpful as a parent, but the real boost comes from learning how to deal with these unique challenges.
