Every day, as they nurture their children, mothers influence eternal destiny as no one else can. Yet often women are drawn to seek fulfillment outside of God's design, despite their inherent desire to embrace motherhood with their whole hearts. Today's culture minimizes the vital importance of a mother's role. By catching a vision of God's original design and allowing it to shape their lives, mothers can rediscover the joy and fulfillment to be found in the strategic role to which God has called them-for a purpose far greater than they can imagine. In "The Mission of Motherhood, author, speaker, and mother Sally Clarkson closely examines this God-ordained plan for mothers, introduced in the book of Genesis and upheld throughout his Word. Using practical examples, her own personal anecdotes, a challenging vision, and sound scriptural support, Clarkson upholds the traditional, biblical view of God's plan for motherhood-giving mothers exactly the support they need to persevere in cultivating and sharing their hearts for God, for their children, and for their homes. From the Back CoverSally Clarkson has achieved a beautiful balance of biblical teaching and the heart of a mother in The Mission of Motherhood. However, despite saying that working moms can still be following God's plan, staying at home is better. Both stay at home mothers and working mothers can be following God's will--I think she insinuates that working outside the home means working mons are not committed to motherhood and "trying to fit it around edges" or career". As a military veteran and physicuan mother, while this may be freeing for moms at home, it compiles guilt on working moms. Active duty military moms have often been accused of "abandoning" their children when they deploy to fight for our country and Christian physician moms may feel they are falling outside God's purpose. While I think the intent was to encourage moms who stay home, it excludes working moms who are called to BOTH the mission of motherhood and outside the home. This is common amoung conservative churches and I wush there was a true balance--if there was balance, this had potential to encourage moms in both areas0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Inspiring and practical.By MA SullyThe author gives many fun stories and practical examples of how she nurtured and trained her children. Each chapter ends with practical ideas for applying the ideas set forth in the chapter. Motherhood is not always easy and sometimes we don't feel like we are making a difference, but with faith, perseverance and a commitment to loving our children our families can thrive. If you need to be reminded or encouraged about what God has called you to do, as a mom, this book is for you.8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. great starting pointBy Joy NicholasI think this book provides a great starting point for mothers. Sally Clarkson's tone is warm and encouraging and fairly realistic. (I say "fairly" because there were a few lines I read that seemed kind of saccharine-y, for lack of an actual word). It isn't "perfect", but I think every mother should read it and consider its applications to her family. I had just given birth to my third child when I read it, and I wish I'd read it sooner. There are many gems I took from it, but I think the most important one was to use challenging times and illnesses as an opportunity to express my love to my children -- rather than just trying to survive the rough patches. And it's for that reason, that I highly recommend this book.
