This was the only book I read about parenting when my daughter was an infant, over 20 years ago. She is now pregnant, and it is the first baby shower gift she has received from, of course, the mom who raised her on the principles from this book. The humorously-presented but very serious concepts are all that any parent needs to raise a strong, independent, self-disciplined child. Consistency mixed with common sense and love is the basic premise, and if that is the only rule you learn from this book, then it will have paid for itself a thousand times over. I recommend it unhesitatingly for any parent or soon-to-be parent. I truly believe that the amazing person that my daughter has become is due in large part to the advice I took from this book and put into practice.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. my favorite parenting bookBy sylvia learymy favorite parenting book! when the kids got old enough, they read it, too, because they loved the cartoons, and identified their mis/behaviors in it! now that they're grown, they want their own copy ;)3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Ancient secret fundamental truths about discipline revealedBy A CustomerEverything you need to raise polite, nice, well-mannered kids (works for pets, too!) is in this book. It's not rocket science, but you DO need to be consistent, firm, and rational. It might be easy to dismiss the content based on the humorous presentation, but this book will solve (and prevent!) your child(ren)'s behavioral and discipline issues.PLEASE REPUBLISH THIS TITLE! We loaned ours out and it is gone. We want to give this book to all our friends with kids, but can't and now we can't lend it.
