Rylie comes with baggage from her past from being abused first by her parents and then by an ex-boyfriend who used a knife to try to kill her. This story is about her recovery, taking her life back from despair to become a successful business woman, a wife and mother.Derek's parents are wonderful support characters in this book. They come to love Rylie as they would their own child and help the young couple in many ways.Derek has to use patience and gradually wins Rylie's trust and acceptance of herself as a good person. The story shows Rylie's strong character after the abuse she suffers. Derek, the book deals with abuse, graphically and the tragic effects on a victim, so if the topic is not one you want to read about, you will miss a good story with how Rylie works to overcome her problems with her self-image, her nightmares and fears to become a person of worth.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It's really hard to read about abuse when you have been a victim,By SusieIt does not matter whether the abuse takes a physical, emotional or psychological path, it is all pain. I am so glad that authors have begun to expose this topic but it is still hard to read when there are aspects that bring the nightmares back.I can imagine the reviews of those who have never known what Rylie went through, how weak she was. The questions of why she did not just leave him. It is so easy to judge what you have so little knowledge or experience of that awful, terrible world. Some of us come out with deep physical reminders, some of us come out with deep emotional or psychological reminders. Some of us do not survive. I have heard it said, that a society is judged on how the members of the animals we have domesticated are treated. I have no disagreement with that statement. I would only add that a society is judged by how the female members of Homo Sapiens are treated. For every cop, social worker, volunteer, psychologist or ordinary citizen who has taken a stand or helped the victims of abuse, I salute you.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great storyBy CustomerThis was such a good story. I was really excited about the concept and the characters in this story. This story was a little too close to my heart because I lived some parts of it too. It was good to see a great ending and knowing all the bad people got their just desserts. love does conquer all and this was one of the best books that I have read in a long time. Great job with the writing.
