A Let-DownBy ChuhalWhile there were enough products and remedies mentioned in this work which made it somewhat worth reading, the author seems to gloss over most of the contents, rather than expounding on history or techniques. Consequently, reading this book was a bit like scanning a sparse Internet article or newspaper blurb. There was nowhere near the information within that I was expecting, so I simply wrote down some of the products mentioned and later looked up the research myself.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. This book helped my skin!By Susan K.I believe in the wisdom of tradition, as well as the latest advances in medical technology. This book is a fun, light read for people who are curious to know why Asians don't seem to age. (Neither does beautiful black skin... but I digress.) I am desperate to incorporate any reasonable practice into my beauty regimen that will keep my wrinkles at bay! There is also a discussion on what different Asian countries consider beautiful. Thank goodness tiny feet are no longer in vogue (ouch!). Another thing to note: unlike uber-westernized Asian-Americans here in the U.S., Asians in Asia look down on tanned Asian skin (considered healthy and attractive in the US and western Europe); they covet the lightest, whitest skin possible. This is why upper-class Asians in Asia generally don't ever look past 40... as the sun is the main source of aging.I can go on and on.Buy this for a fun plane ride or while waiting in your car for your kid to finish soccer practice.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great Health InfoBy BeresI really enjoyed this book. It's full of useful information - much that I had not heard elsewhere. Even the things I already knew about were explained in more detail so I still learned something. The author links to various websites to back up her claims which is nice too. You don't have to be Asian to get some great skin care tips from this book. The only criticism I have is the info about Asian skin lightening/whitening habits and why they do it. I don't buy the author's reason about it being a leftover custom from days gone by. I lived in Korea and Japan and the skin whitening thing is a major obsession over there.Almost all skin care products in this part of the world have a lightening/brightening effect. I saw many women on the street who had obviously damaged their skin with these products, yet the author, and most beauty bloggers, don't acknowledge the level of obsession with white skin. Other than that, it's a good read.
