A must-read for parents of difficult childrenBy Lisa M.This book goes way beyond the Nancy and Sid (as Debbie always wrote it) we know from the movie and into the desperately troubled life of Nancy from birth to death. I have a difficult child--not nearly as difficult as Nancy--so I related to the struggles the Spungen family faced. Debbie was courageous enough to write the things all parents of difficult children think but would never dare say for fear of harsh judgment; like expressing her hatred of Nancy and what she did to the family. No detail was spared and we're left feeling like we know the Spungens. This book was amazing!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. AmazingBy DebraI have recommended this book to my daughter. I can hardly wait for her to read it. I never dreamed that I would find so much comfort within the pages of this heartfelt, raw story of the inside of this family's anguish. Deborah's method of telling her side of the 20 years, was gut wrenching, sad and yes at times provoked a chuckle. This is a must read for anyone who has had sadness in their life, due to a child's death or has struggled with their mental illness/drug addiction. Cudos to this author for her honestly about her feelings and for this family to be able to reconstruct their family structure.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. count your lucky stars if you never have to deal with this family's tragedy.By mickiebbThis book was very troubling. I came to the realization that these parents, especially the mother, must be saints, or I must be a horrible person, because I could never have stood what they put up with. Gives a whole new and horrifying picture of mental illness and the problems of dealing with it. The added dimension of dealing with a lot of it in the public eye just made it almost unbearable. Like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
