I read this book in 1 day I couldn't put it down that's how good it was the struggles that she went thru raising her children keeping them safe and doing what she needed to do to keep a roof over there heads and food on the table. I love that she kept God first in her life and in the children's life now look what God has done Andria is very successful and Bryshere is a one of the biggest stars on TV and Brianna is very successful as well. This is a inspiration to all single mother's raising children with ADHD showing them no matter what your disorder is or struggles u can still follow your dreams and accomplish your goals never let anyone tell you different.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. BEFORE EMPIRE reminds us that if we stay persistent, consistent and keep the faith there is nothing we can't doBy Cyrus WebbAll great things have a beginning, and for Andria Mayberry and her family that beginning was filled with challenges, difficult choices and the need to endure in spite of challenges. In the book BEFORE EMPIRE Ms. Mayberry let's us into what her life and her superstar son Yazz's life was like before he became known to many of us on FOX's hit show EMPIRE. We are able to see how she was able to deal with abuse, feelings of helplessness and the hurtful things that others had to say about her and her relationships---while at the same time providing for herself and her children.Discovering her son had ADHD didn't diminish the greatness she saw in him. "I knew that he was going to be a celebrity at some point in his life," she wrote in BEFORE EMPIRE, "I didn't know what industry; I just knew it was going to happen." Her belief in his ability and the need to do what she could to provide for his sister and him led Ms. Mayberry to have to make difficult decisions, ones that would have her away from them so they could have what they needed. We have all heard that sometimes the teacher becomes the student, and Ms. Mayberry attests to this in her book. "Yazz's strength often made me realize how important it is to trust in God," she writes. "Whenever I wanted to back down or if I was unsure of a situation, he would say 'no.' Not in a careless way, but in a way that let me know that he had trust that God would protect him no matter what."Full of lessons we can all learn from and encouragement that will benefit us when going through dark times, BEFORE EMPIRE is proof that if we are persistent, consistent and keep the faith there is nothing we can't do.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An Exceptional ReadBy Angel N. WilliamsAndria Mayberry pours her heart and soul into her book! She gives real accounts of her journey through life with her children and issues that arised. I was blessed by the book as there is a common thread with women, mothers, protectors, nurtures and women that fail and get back up to keep going. It's a MUST read and a page turner.
