Quinn--author of award winning Web SeriesI began reading this moving, heartrending, and yet uplifting memoir at the first of the week. Since the only time I have to hold a book in print in my hands is at bedtime, I had not expected to finish it in just a few days, but found it was one I could not put down. The tail of growing up in a highly dysfunctional family, where she was forced to take the adult role in the family as a preschooler is compelling. Frocking off was a survival skill which Jo Dibblee created to survive and remain positive through the most horrendous life experiences imaginably. "Frock Off" is written in a strong, compelling voice, reminiscent of "A Glass Castle." Jo has the ability to bring tears to your eyes and also a smile to your lips as you experience how she turned her lemon of a life into lemonade. Pick up a copy of "Frock off" and learn how frocking off might be applied for assisting you or your loved ones through the inevitable rough patches of your lives.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Back to FreedomBy SystemsGirl - Jenn CocktonIn The Four Agreements human domestication is discussed as a system of punishment and reward and how humans begin to pretend to please others and avoid judgement. Jo has written an amazing book that take's this concept and exposes it. She takes us on a journey of breaking the chains of a system that creates false selfs "frocks" that we present to the world. However they are not presents at all - to anyone. It is what we were taught. It is no longer necessary and as Jo points out, is very harmful. Shortly after reading Jo's book my Daughter and I were at the breakfast table and we were talking about Mistakes. We believe Mistakes are meant to be exposed vs hidden. We believe everyone makes mistakes and they are called Mistakes because we are not proud of them. We also believe the world could benefit from more exposed Mistakes. The world learns from the Mistakes of others. We could take what we learn and move forward - outside of a system of punishment and reward and dissolve this "people pleasing" mentality we frock to avoid judgment, for there would be no judgement. Instead a whole lot of learning and playing with others. My Daughter and I believe that is really what we are here for. Enjoy this Beautiful Book - may it give you back the gift of freedom, learning and play. Jo Thank You So Much for Sharing this with the world. xoxo Jenn0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The courage to soar far outweighs the chains that could have kept her captiveBy Sharon HollisJo, I just finished your memoir. Wow! You really have a style of writing that encapsulated me throughout the entire book. I may as well have been a "fly on the wall' or the person next door, as you made your journey through life. Your ability to make me laugh was such a beautiful gift. There were plenty of moments for tears as well. I found myself in tears of joy, for you, at the end as you delivered as promised. Jo, your story has cemented for me, what I am working on in my own life right now. that undaunted courage and strong will to thrive, in spite of all that has happened, certainly shines through! I am daring my own self to take a deeper look just to be sure I am not wearing frocks that no longer serve my life!Wow!Five Stars!
