Good introduction for parentsBy Mum in TexasI purchased this book as a parent of elementary aged children to educate myself on bullying and in an attempt to bully-proof my kids. The book reads a little more like a text book and it seems to be aimed both at educators and parents. I found it useful to clearly understand that everyone is somewhere on the bullying cycle, not just the bully and the bullied. My kids all seem to have a natural tendency to be one of the three (bully/bullied/bystander) and I found ways of helping each of them. The true key seems to be the development of healthy peer relationships. The book does NOT provide clear activities and doesn't seem intended to. If you are looking for a how-to book - this would not be the choice. What it really does is to help the parent or educator understand the impact of bullying and find approaches that will help kids become better citizens. I highly recommend it for any parent with school aged kids.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Parent Educator endorses this bookBy Judy Helm Wright aka Auntie ArtichokeAs a parent educator who works with families, schools and caring adults all over the world, bullying is becoming a bigger and bigger problem. I even started a blog at [...] to share information and resources to help stop the cruelty. This book was very eye-opening for me on the damage that is done to the bystander who does nothing to help the victim. Often the victim gets over the physical hurt before the bystander ever loses the emotional trauma. This gives excellent ways to strengthen your kids and help build a more respectful world.Recently, a woman in her 80's shared that she still felt guilty for not stepping forward when classmates teased and bullied a child in the fourth grade. The basis for a balanced life is being kind, thoughtful and having respect for all.Judy Helm Wright aka Auntie Artichoke, author of Out of Balance?: Be a Bounce Back Person1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Not a great read..By SouthFloridaGirlI am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and was looking for material to assist with Bullying Groups within the schools I go to and found this unhelpful. There was a little information but just didn't have the depth to which I was looking for. Bullying is such a wide spread problem in our children today and I would have appreciated more on how to discuss the topic and work with children.
